Our Methods and Advices
What is the VT team?
The VT team is a group of academic researchers and medical doctors that aim to research and develop treatments and health supplements, it is funded by a young academic at the faculty of medicine of Kuwait University Mohammad Alansary.
What does the VT Team focus on?
The main research area was on the skin condition called vitiligo, other research lines focus on skin health care and nutritional supplements.
What have they discovered about vitiligo treatment?
A new treatment methodology and two phase treatment (VT.Treatment ™)
What are VT.Treatment ™? And how to use them?
VT topical treatment consists of two lotions that are used separately. The first is called VT.Treatment ™1 or phototherapy and the second treatment is called VT.Treatment ™2 or skin regeneration.
VT.Treatment ™1 (Phototherapy), unlike the conventional PUVA (Psoralen Ultra Violet A treatment), haa plants extracts and natural components that cause melanocytogenesis (production of new melanin cells) under UVA and also UVB (but with lesser efficiency than UVA). The active ingredients are from the photosensitive family combined with other agents that maximise and optimise the effect of the active ingredients with minimal side effects.
A case report from Dr. Najat Alnuzur from K.S.A. showed that a vitiligo patient had a
history of vitiligo spreading after using conventional PUVA treatment (sensitive to PUVA). However, he got positive results on his acral vitiligo after using VT.Treatment ™ 1 (Phototherapy) with the same PUVA protocol.
According to Alansary’s method of treating vitiligo, VT1 cannot be used alone and should be combined with VT2.
VT1 has several photosensitive natural compounds. Rarely or if misused it might cause sunburn, skin itching, redness or sensitivity. In the case of any side effects, stop using the product and seek medical attention. Do not apply on irritated skin, open wounds. In case of contact with the eyes, wash with a generous amount of saline and seek medical care. Use only suitable for 7 years and older. If less than 7 years old, use VT2 only.
The timing of applying VT1 can be advised by your dermatologist based on your skin sensitivity.
VT.Treatment ™ 2 (skin regeneration)
This lotion has a plant extracts and other natural products that provide the skin with essential rich nutrients for skin regeneration found to be an amazing anti-aging, burn treatments, oily skin treatment, acne treatment, colour balance, protecting the skin
from excess radiation oxidation and also contain natural immunomodulators and other essential buffering and natural components.
VT2 (Skin regeneration) is used for treating vitiligo with sun exposure after VT.Treatment ™ 1 (phototherapy). Possible side effects are sunburn, skin itching, redness or sensitivity. In case of any side effects stop using the product and seek medical attention. Do not apply on irritated skin and open wounds. In case of contact with eyes, wash with a generous amount of saline and seek medical care.
Application procedure:
The treatment for vitiligo is phototherapeutic, meaning that the user has to be exposed to sun or UV radiation after applying each lotion topically on the white spots and massaging it.
The sun or UV exposure time varies among individuals, some can tolerate 15 min exposure, others might get sunburnt or phototoxicity in less than a min of exposure. The user should be careful while using the treatment and the dermatologist is advised to experiment with the exposure time by starting with 1 min for each treatment and to gradually increase with 1 min every two days until the white patch colour changes to pink. If the user has been overexposed and got a sunburn or phototoxicity, treatment must be stopped and medical attention sought. Before resuming VT.Treatment ™ with care, the skin must be healed. Always be cautious regarding exposure time. Generally, the time should be divided between both treatments. That means, apply the first lotion followed by sun exposure and wash the area with water. Subsequently, apply the second lotion followed with the same time of sun exposure and wash the area with water.
What is VT2 Skin Regeneration alone used for?
VT2 Skin Regeneration has been shown to be effective for treating sun burn marks, acne, scars, oily skin, and for anti-aging. For this, use VT2 Skin Regeneration as a natural topical treatment by applying a mask for 15min.
It is also used for treating vitiligo alone with sun exposure, but it is recommended only for cases under 7 years old.
Does nutrition affect treatment?
We are what we eat. A healthy diet will always enhance your health and life. Whoever claims that diet does not affect vitiligo is mistaken and should read through recent literature. There is plenty of research that shows the association between diet and vitiligo. The most powerful whitening compound that causes hypopigmentation (whitening of the skin or having new white patches) is Kojic acid which is found in soya sauce and some alcohol drinks ( ref: ISSN 2045-2322), acidic fruits that contain vitamin C also found to cause hypopigmentation, so that’s mean avoiding vitamin C supplements and also avoiding multivitamin supplements (Ref: PMID 20465650). As for the supplements, it is important to monitor Vit.D levels and take Vit.D supplements if the individual has a deficiency, vitamin D has an important role in the repigmentation process (Ref: PMID 24177606). Other researches also suggest reducing intake of arachidonic acids, eicosanoids and other autoimmune/allergy-provoking agents (present in white meats, seafood, egg, milk products) as these compounds increase immune response sensitivity and are the cause of the autoimmune issues (many references cited and discussed in our vt instagram page@vt.treatment). We believe that the issue here is not totally due to autoimmunity, but also to how the melanocytes behave to trigger autoimmunity in certain areas. Recommended diets are carrots and carrot juice, green vegetables (wash then soak them 10 min with water before consuming them), chickpeas, onions and antioxidant vegetables but without flavonoids.
If the person has a leaky gut/celiac disease, then gluten-free food is highly recommended. It is also observed that this type of food stimulates the spreading of vitiligo: spicy food, processed
meat, beer, and curcumin.
Generally speaking, a vegan diet is recommended.
Lifestyle?
The first rule, do not smoke. In the past years, our clinical trials showed that smokers are less responsive to vitiligo treatment. Avoid stress as much as possible, a stressful life or work is something you should consider to change or adapt. A person with vitiligo must avoid any pollution, oxidizing and bleaching chemicals, whether it’s by skin contact or by breathing it in. This includes hair bleaching, home cleaning (bleaching) chemicals that have chloride, swimming pool with chloride or tap water with chloride. Skin whitening products or deodorants with whitening compounds and dental whitening compounds, toothpaste with halogen should be washed from lips with plenty of water (also acidic fruits). Black colour and leather shouldn’t be always your choice because they contain pigment chemicals that also cause skin discolouration. Regular mechanical pressure, stretching and frictions of some areas in the skin may cause them to be less regenerative for melanocytes.Once these areas are completely treated it is advised that the person continues the treatment for an additional one or two months, that will make the melanocytes more balanced, connected and more resistant to possible changes. Avoid all aniline, phenols and quinones compounds and wearing rubber gloves for a long time.
Blood Test?
Our group of medical doctors usually ask for the following blood tests as they believe
that these parameters are valuable in the assessment and treatment of vitiligo:
- TSH,T3 and T4
- Vitamin D
- Vitamin B12
- Copper
- Zinc
- Iron
- Calcium
- Hemoglobin
- HDL
- LDL
- Cholesterol
Taking these tests is helpful for your dermatologist to assist you with choosing supplements or refer you to an endocrinologist if needed. You can also send them to VT.treatment WhatsApp Helpline (+96597699970)
Other medications?
According to the blood test results, your VT medical doctor may recommend some medications or supplements that could help with the treatment. Your medical doctor may suggest some immunosuppressants (like corticosteroids based medications) or immunomodulators (like tacrolimus based medications), although the VT.Treatment ™ usually works without any of these combinations. If you had a history of intestinal worms or parasites you should consider retaking your medications against them.
Should I apply Vitiligo medicine (VT.Treatment ™) every day?
It depends on your skin sensitivity, people with sensitive skin usually start with twice a week and with time they will notice that their skin becomes more resistant and the patches are white and the redness (pink colour) has reduced. This means that they can either increase the exposure time or the days of treatment to 3 or 4 days per week. Some are capable of performing the treatment twice a day and they would have faster results when dealing with acral vitiligo. As for those with more resistant skin, they can have a daily treatment.
How long does the VT.Treatment ™ last?
You will have 150ml of VT.treatment 1 (phototherapy) and 150ml of VT.Treatment ™ 2 (skin regeneration), about 0.25ml of lotion is more than enough to cover a patch with a size of a 4cm cube in one application, and that is 600 applications according to that estimated calculation. The lotion is a natural based product with no strong preservatives and packed with aseptic protocol. Once the lotion is open, it must be used within 6 months.
When shall I expect the results for vitiligo treatment?
There is no well-defined answer for that question, vitiligo is a multigenic and multifactorial disorder that varies among individuals. Also, diet and lifestyle have a strong influence as previously explained. Some may take less than a month to see results, others may need more than four months depending on the type and location of vitiligo. Clinical trials data show 88% of the users to be responsive to the treatment. Generally, areas with hair follicle (coloured) are more responsive and easier to treat. Areas with white hair may take a longer time to treat. Acral vitiligo may also take a longer time to be treated.
When I am fully cured, will there be a recurrence (vitiligo returns)?
VT.Treatment ™ clinical trials data, follow up and surveys showed that treated individuals had no recurrence once they were treated. However, Alansary stated that you could experience some minor recurrence if you are dealing with emotional stress or change to a bad lifestyle/diet. However, we also have cases that are cured and observe no recurrence while they are living without any lifestyle/ diet restrictions. The best thing to do in case of recurrence is to start treating immediately. It is also important to note that even if your vitiligo got 100% repigmentation, you should continue the treatment for one additional extra month.
When I’m fully cured, shall I go with no diet/lifestyle restrictions?
Yes, you can. However, if you notice any starting recurrence, you should consider the diet and lifestyle restrictions.
Why am I experiencing a spreading of my vitiligo?
We believe the main causes are stress triggered chemicals (chemokines) in vitiligo individuals stimulating autoimmune response against melanocytes, oxidant/antioxidant imbalance, mechanical or chemical stress on the skin. As written in the diet and lifestyle section, there are many factors in diet and lifestyle that affect the survival of melanocytes survival, cellular regeneration rate, melanin production and immune interactions. A person should go through these factors and observe what he/she is doing in daily life. For some vitiligo patients, the symptoms increase during spring. These patients should be more careful and consider to change their diet and their lifestyle during this period and be more determined to do the treatments. In addition, medical tests should also be taken to check if there are any other variables needed to be taken into account during the treatment. Whether you are under treatment or not, this spreading will occur during spring and it is not due to the treatment itself. Nevertheless, the treatment actually reduces the onset of the spreading, so you shouldn’t stop the treatment. You will notice that it’s just a tide that will stop later and all of it will be treated.
What is the best radiation therapy? When is the best time for sunlight exposure?
The best source of radiation, economically, is sunlight, sunlight has both UVA and UVB. The best period for sun exposure is in the morning and in the afternoon for moderate and high UV index countries, and late morning till early afternoon for Lee UV index countries. Again, it is important to test the time for exposure gradually. The best radiation light therapy is a cabin or large tubes UVA with narrowband UVB together. Large tubes cover more surface area with better intensity than small tubes.
Side effects, what shall I do if I experience them?
Clinical trials show that 10% may have hyperpigmentation (stronger melanin production) in the newly pigmented area or around it, this is good to prevent spreading and to get faster results. However, the individual may not like the colour contrast. Usually the natural colour tone will be resumed within 2-3 months, if not seek advice from a dermatologist. 0.01% could show skin sensitivity towards VT.Treatments™.
In the case of sunburn, phototoxicity or any other side effect you must stop the application and seek medical attention.
How can I order VT.Treatment ™?
Either by your local distributor/dermatologist or through our website.
What combination therapy can I use with VT.Treatment ™?
Tacrolimus and/or corticosteroids with doctor’s supervision and fractional CO2 is advised once or twice a year. VT.Treatment ™ shows successful results in combination with tissue grafting, you must consult your doctor for the correct procedure.
